Devon & Albert

We’ve got some explaining to do. We’ll start by saying that this may have been the wedding we were most excited for this year, but also the one we were most unsure about. That had absolutely nothing to do with Devon and Albert (who are the loveliest people you’ll ever meet), but more with everybody else… and our own ability to keep a secret.

When we first talked to D&A they told us that they were already married. Then they told us that we were the only people that knew. Soooo… no pressure. Last year they eloped to the Canadian Rockies and told absolutely no-one. So as they planned this “wedding”, they found themselves discovering new ways to hide the truth from their family and friends. This only escalated as the day unfolded. When Devon needed an extra hand with her dress, she called Albert in to help. After all, he’d seen the dress and could help… except that they had to both sneak away to do it.

Their ceremony in the Colonial Theater was quick, narrated by “Morgan Freeman”, and also a ruse. As soon as it ended, they snuck out of the theater and a movie started, which revealed their secret to everyone in attendance. Their actual elopement involved sunrise hiking and the most gorgeous views imaginable. Everybody left confused, awed and crying.

A few minutes later, Devon and Albert emerged inside Bistro on Bridge to explain themselves to everybody. It’s hard for us to express how amazing this whole day was. We didn’t even get into the custom Guess Who game, the drawing to see who got to sign the marriage license, or the spontaneous dancing. This was everything a wedding should be: unique; deeply personal; and very, very fun. The only thing it was missing was an actual wedding :) Enjoy!
