Katie & Matt | Wedding in Pittsburgh

After a wonderful Thanksgiving (and a surprisingly small amount of overindulgence), Amy and I headed out to Pittsburgh on Friday for our first ever wedding in the 'Burgh. We've actually been to Pittsburgh a few times in the last year or so, but hadn't really experienced much. So, here's my lightning review: I really like nearly everything about that city, well except the weather. Oakland and Shadyshide are awesome, as are Quaker Steak and Lube (Arizona wings) and Pamela's Diner... Yummy crepe pancakes. The PITT campus is fantastically old and beautiful, and it's the only city I've been to that's even more obsessed with their football team than Philadelphia. To Eagles fans, I know that sounds weird, but it's really not even close.

So, since the Steelers lost last night, I'm hoping this post has the joy to enlighten an entire city today!!!... High hopes. Anyway, Katie & Matt (engagement session) were guests at the 3rd wedding we ever shot. It's weird to think that someone could remember a stranger for that long, but thanks to the joys of easy conversation and Facebook, they got back in touch with me a while ago to bring me out for their wedding. So glad to be there and to have seen so many people from when we were just starting out. Lots of reminiscing on our part. Anyway, Katie and Matt, we love you guys. If you ever decide to renew your vows, we'll be there in a heartbeat. Enjoy...

I dig the one of the bridal party sitting in one row of the church looking at the kissing couple. Bravo.

  2. Tony, Nailed that last shot! Awesome work as always.

  3. Nicole

Incredible again tony! I completely agree that the Burgh is beautiful! You captured it well…:) and as for making up for the lose last night..I guess you did..Took my mind off of that stupid game

  4. Erin

Frequent blog stalker here! I live in Pittsburgh and can’t for the life of me figure out what church that is! Where did they hold the ceremony? Oh and beautiful pictures of course… glad you enjoyed the burgh!

  5. Hey Erin, Church of the Ascension in Oakland/Shadyside area :)

  6. What a beautiful set! I love the bridal formals ‘up’ the aisle and especially the fish eye dancing shot from above. I never think to use my own lens this way!

  7. Henry

Hey tony, I’m curious as to where you setup the strobes for the reception shots? or is the flash on camera? Thanks!

  8. Carrie

Tony- when you shot our wedding in Oct. 2007 Matt and Katie knew that they wanted you to be their photographer at their wedding. At that time theyh didn’t have a date, venue, or her dress but they fell in love with you and Amy. I feel blessed that you allowed us to be a part of your beginning and I am so glad that you have found so much success and prosperity in what you love to do. Congrats on Amy joining your team!

The Turnquists | Family Session at Valley Forge

Had a cool experience earlier this week as I got to shoot for a former coworker. Always great to see people from back when I had a 'real' job. It makes me miss having coworkers a little bit... but then again I'm working on a couch right now, so not too much :). Anyway, I went to Valley Forge Park to shoot some family photos for Amy's crew. Really sweet family and two little girls that get along with each other WAY better than I used to get along with my sister. Impressive feat by the Turnquists. These guys have had a big year. I'm not sure I can make some of the accomplishments public (something about women sharing their age), but we got some good stuff to commemorate 2009. I really like this set of images, hope you do too! Here's a few of my favorites...

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving :)

Happy Thanksgiving Weirdos

I just wanted to write a quick note on (early) Thanksgiving morning. If you're reading this on Thanksgiving, then you're as obsessive as I am...

Anyway, I just wanted to wish a very happy Thanksgiving to all my blog-stalkers, even as some of you live in countries that have no idea what Thanksgiving is. Of the many things I have to be thankful for, those of you reading this are the reason for some of the most important ones. Whether you're a client, photographer, friend, family member or just a plain old stalker, I seriously owe an enormous THANK YOU to those of you that check out this blog, share my name with your friends, or hire us for important things in your life. I hope you all believe me when I say that in complete honesty, you are the reason I've had any success with this business and I owe each one of you for all the support over the past few years.

Hopefully some of the happy people you see on here can give a little something back to you. As always, thanks for looking!

Brittany & David | Wedding in Lancaster

On Friday, I was in Lancaster on another gorgeous November day. Brittany & David got married at Riverdale Manor, somewhere that I'm becoming quite familiar with. It was a phenomenal day in every way possible. Great weather, great clients, great location. Just one of those days that makes you want to shoot forever. These guys did us TONS of favors, including seeing each other before the wedding, giving us lots of time for portraits and being willing to do whatever we wanted.

With that said, I was giving the pleasure of shooting this wedding with my good friend Sam Hassas from San Jose. Sam and I have developed a good friendship over the last year or so and if it weren't for about 3,000 miles, we'd probably just go in business together. Anyway, although it was my wedding, we shot this wedding sort of as co-photographers, to get the most and best work for B&D. Make sure to check out his take on the wedding HERE. Enjoy...

Sam's shots...

Their first look. Brittany requested the shot of her falling down the stairs, but this one seemed better to me :)...

I didn't want to use any of Sam's set up shots, but this was was just TOO good...

My favorite...

The next few, Sam shot the guys, I shot the girls...

Next 2 are Sam's...

Caught B&D taking a break to cool off...

    Great shots Thoff (and Shassas).
I think you should consider a move to San Jose, if only to make the dream a reality. Couldn’t go wrong with a Hoffer/Hassas Partnership (or Hassas/Hoffer).

  2. FANTASTIC as always. Sometimes I hate dropping by your blog! :-)

Also, the tuxes that the guys wore are freaking awesome! Very classy.

  3. I second the praise of the tux selection… just amazing. I couldn’t stop looking at the details.

    Excellent parody as well.

  4. Always a pleasure my friend. :)

  5. Nicole

These pictures made me even more excited for our big day. You did an excellent job again. I love the tree shots and the sparkler shot (especially since it will be 4th of July time). I actually got chills as I scrolled down and saw that shot of the venue. :) Great Job!

  6. mike diamond

great pictures, the one of the david standing on the porch and brit standing off the porch, it was taken in lancaster, was great. great job…great wedding….

  7. Natalie

My sister was suppose to be one of Brittany’s brides maids, but couldn’t due to the fact that she is in Spain. So she was just thrilled over the pictures, but a little envious that she couldn’t be there.

  8. Tracy

Beautiful pictures, great artistic quality! Thanks for capturing these memory making moments for my daughter..

  9. Colleen

My daughter was the flower girl in Brittany and David’s wedding. These pictures are amazing! They look like ads in a magazine! Great job!

Jenn & Steve | Engagement in Princeton

I had been to Princeton quite a few times in college, but hadn't been back for a while until the other day. I love that town, I can't believe it was my first time shooting there. Jenn and Steve hooked up with me for the day and although I can't shoot their wedding, we accomplished a lot in two hours... They're a very happy couple and we had some GORGEOUS November weather. This month has been crazy awesome for weather.

More blogging coming tomorrow, enjoy!...

These two met on a golf course, so we found one and only partially damaged their putting green...

Lucky Friday | Band

Early this week I shot some promo stuff for the guys from Lucky Friday (download their new song free on their website). Great group of guys to spend an afternoon with. You might recognize Dave as a former groom of mine. When Dave told me he was in a band, I must've made the look that other people do when I tell them a photographer. I wasn't really sure what to expect. I was really surprised at just how good these guys are though. You definitely need to check them out. Also, a huge thanks to Valerie for coming along and help as a light holder and voice extender! Here's some of their shoot, enjoy!...

Dawn & Anthony | Engagement in Philadelphia

Sunday was one of the most beautiful November days I can ever remember. I was so happy to be out shooting. Any day like that is a photographer's dream. Dawn and Anthony came up from Virginia for the weekend and met us at Bartram's Garden, a great spot overlooking the city. Here's a few of my favorites...

Oh, and this is Reggie...

One of my favorites...

Although I love it, I take absolutely no credit for this shot. Amy picked the location, and when I saw it, I knew I wanted to shoot my version of a shot from one of my favorites, Ben Chrisman...
