Blaire + Brian | Wedding

That photo above was one of the incredible sights from Saturday's wedding in Philadelphia. Blaire + Brian got married at The DownTown Club by Independence Hall. It was such a cool spot. We were lucky to just barely beat the rain for photos, and by the time we got upstairs for the ceremony, we looked out the window and saw a full rainbow. I don't think I've ever had such a perfect view of one. It was incredible.

Anyways, it will take you about 2 seconds to understand B+B's personalities as you're looking through these photos. Blaire wanted lots of candids and lots of fun. Neither was too difficult for us. This is probably my most photojournalistic wedding, which was fun for us to shoot. Here's some of my favorites!...

Amy's shot...

I just wanted to point out my ninja skills, as I took the shot on the right with the camera behind my back. Self-applause...

You will see MUCH, MUCH more of this cake very shortly...

Without further ado... Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the BEST cake smashing in history. I dare you to top it!...

Love the rings on the bronze hand. Wow – brutal cake smashing – great! Oh and I saw that exact rainbow on Saturday when I was driving home from King of Prussia in the pouring rain and then the gleaming sun! It WAS a spectacular rainbow.

  2. Amber

There are 3 moments I am most excited about for my wedding this weekend. Seeing Kevin waiting for me. The “i now pronounce you..” part. Seeing that the first set of pictures has gone up on your blog!!!

Jilian + Don | Engagement

Thursday night I was out at the Jenkins Arboretum in Wayne, PA for Jillian + Don's engagement session. It's a cool place and we got a private tour too... It was my first time shooting someone as tall as me. I restricted myself to one 'height difference' shot, which you see above. Enjoy...

Erin + Dave | Wedding

On Sunday, Amy and I were in Media, PA for Erin and Dave's wedding at the Old Mill. A couple of things struck me about that place. I had shot there before, but only on the outside. The inside was BEAUTIFUL. I really loved it. Not to mention that nearby they had a great (if not completely random) bunch of bamboo growing. As you see above, the shot reminded me of one of the best TV shows ever. If I did my job, then you should be able to figure out which one.

Erin + Dave had just a gorgeous event and a really fun reception. A really exciting group of people. Dave's band Lucky Friday even played, which you'll see later. All I can say is that they're awesome and you need to go see them/hire them ASAP! Onto some of my favorite pics from the day...

This sounds weird coming from a guy, but we were blown away by all the flowers... they were amazing! Fresh Designs Florist...

This next picture makes me mad. I had what I thought was an amazing shot lined up for their "flower" ritual. I set it up and took one I was SOO happy with. Then, Amy has to go and take this one, which is just so awesome, I can't even bother posting mine...

I love this shot for the looks on their faces. It's that moment everyone goes through.... when they calculate the ratio and walk the fine line between messiness and anger.

Dave jumped on the bass for a few...

EDIT: By the way, for the non-LOST fans out there, here's the non-serious version of the first pic :)

  1. Love the bamboo. Already antsy for Jan 2010… bring it on, season six!

  2. with my hands in the air and blogstalking like I just didn’t care – oh man…. I care to blogstalk you always… another just great one ! you’re like Michael Jordan. Soon your “great” will be hard to define because your “great” will become your “normal” – remember when you’d say … “oh Jordan only scored 35 points – that’s normal” – you’re the new Jordan ! This is Great… but it’s pretty damn normal for you! Love this! BAMBOO works – and Erin and David are GORGEOUS together! – lotsa love from Tucson, AZ

  3. Amber

I know your more of a sports guy than a music one but that instrument is known as the BASS. :) But the pictures are amazing and I am so excited to see what you capture at our wedding!!

  4. Hahaha, thanks Amber! It’s fixed now :)

  5. If my current dissertation idea falls through, I might write a dissertation about the comments you get on your blog.

  6. Emil

I have to say this is one of my favorite weddings you have shot. The entire set is just ridiculously amazing!

And I second being antsy for January 2010! C’mon Season 6!!

  7. Absolutely FAB! Love this one. One of my favorites! Should I bust out a good old Saturday night liner…SUPER FAN! (and yes, I’m doing the pose). :-)

  8. Hillary

I love the first bamboo shot! It’s totally LOST–that’s exactly what I thought when I saw it. Best show on TV! Plus, the guy all the way on the right looks a little like Sayid. Haha.

  9. Lisa

These pictures are by far the BEST wedding shots I’ve ever seen!!!! Let’s not forget…..three of those guys are my nephews! The wedding was a blast, too!!

  10. These are such fabulous pictures…maybe not even a good enough word for them. You are really a talented photographer in capturing some really special moments that Erin, Dave, their family, and friends will treasure. I love your blog comments also. Nice touch.

Ben + Lauren | Wedding

All week long the weather looked incredibly daunting for Saturday's wedding. Nothing changed and they were calling for some crazy storms at right about the time for Ben + Lauren's outdoor ceremony. They gambled and went for it, and despite some ungodly humidity, it went off without a hitch. I've really enjoyed getting to know these guys. They're fun, have great friends AND they got married in my hometown!

Thanks again to Alan, who shot the wedding with me and even got his own place card. Very thoughtful Lauren :) Hope you enjoy the pics!

Alan and I took the same shot without really knowing it...

The boys' idea... nice work fellas.

Great shot by Alan...

Lauren, I feel comfortable enough in our friendship to call you out on screwing up the "I will" portion of the program...

All the girls returned the keys to Ben's apartment...

Saving the best for last.... Fog? Yes please!

What other's had to say

  1. Hey look! Ben and Samantha!

  2. bad weather – no problem. fog – no problem. this is another great one from the Hoffer ! it’s another treat to see this kinda consistancy. Super fun…. I love how there doesn’t seem to be any drop in quality no matter what you are doing.

    rock on man.

    - travis

  3. The first B/W is my favorite. Great ring shot as well. And the cake toppers… I had just stumbled onto those on Etsy a few weeks ago and thought, “Those are so cool!”

  4. I really like the formals shot on the bridge. That ring bearer is adorable but the processing enhances the photo into something just lovely. That ring shot is stunning, the water coupled with the different texture of the grate is so nice. Its funny the fog shot remind me a little of a UFO jk. Made for a great photo though huh? Great set, looked like a fun couple!

  5. Fabulous photos! Ben & Lauren is such a fun couple, you really captured who they are and their high-spirited energy.

  6. The last one is out of this world. Outrageous!

  7. Nancy Martin

How crazy is this. Tony-you did Eric & Maria’s wedding 8/14, and I was looking at their photo’s. Then I see Ben & Lauren’s photos, only to see while looking a one in particular, that Ben’s dad & I worked together at Garden Spot High School, where we both retired from. Tony you sure do get around and every set of photos I look at get even more amazing than the last. If Phil Witman reads this, then here is a shout out from Nancy Martin!!!

Adam Haines | Musician

On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of shooting for Adam Haines, who I met while shooting a wedding last summer. He's currently working on a new album of contemporary piano music. The dude can play! Anyway we got some shots for his new album artwork at the Mirriam Theater in Philadelphia and a few other random spots in the city... Enjoy!

  1. You got a piano outside?! That’s awesome.

  2. Wow! I grew up in Philly area but now live and shoot in Atlanta. My aunt turned me on to your work. I didn’t know that there was a viable alternative to Cliff Mautner in the Philly area. I’ll be sure to let me friends in the Philly area know about you. My Lightroom catalog “others work” now has a new file folder called “Hoffer”. Outstanding work!

  3. I’ve been listening to Adam’s CD forever! My mom and him were friends. He is insanely talented! Great pictures!

  4. Meredith

Both Adam and I went to the same undergraduate school together and I have heard him play, he is one of the best (right up there with Jim Brickman), got a ton of talent and can’t wait for his 2nd CD to come out!!

Steph + Michael | Wedding

This weekend I was out in Illinois for the first time ever. Liked it out there, loved Chicago and I had a great time. More importantly, my dear friend Steph (Bird) got married to Michael (Michaelball). It was so nice to be a part of this wedding, to get to reconnect with some friends and to see Steph + Michael both living in the same country, which has been rare.

Also, I was joined by one of my favorite photographers, Evan Baines. Evan works in Nashville and kicks butt. We had a great time all weekend and got to shoot in the rain. Woo!... See some of his favorites here. Hope you enjoy the pics!

Steph got her dog a tie, which was awesome... and we took about 1200 pictures of him.

Evan grabbed this great shot of Steph finding out about the incoming rain...

  1. GOOD GOSH… consistant and fresh as always, how you continue to keep doing new stuff is a mystery to me and a total inspiration. I can’t imagine having you and Baines at the same wedding… that’s like having Sam and Spencer… or Baines and Spencer… or you and Sam… it’s just not RIGHT !

Love the soccer style shots and how you worked in the rain – fantastic… consider me among your greatest fans !

  2. That’s a pretty hard core tool belt you’ve got there. Also, do those guys know how lucky they are to be able to wear soccer jerseys to a wedding?! Cool.

  3. What an awesome wedding! Looks like you two had fun. I love the journalistic look of the cake feeding, the simplicity of her shoe shot etc… my favorite though is the ring shot with the coins.

  4. jenny

those are so awesome, love them all, especially ronaldinho and the one with steph’s expression hearing about the rain, you guys captured everything amazingly

  5. Nicole

I love the ring in the petal picture! :) Awesome job once again

  6. Jessica

Those are Costa Rican coins!!! I feel proud… :o)
    You are an amazing photographer…

Maria + Eric | Wedding

Whew... ok. Some blogging coming at you via the Windy City... So Friday, Amy and I were in Wrightsville, Pa for Maria + Eric's wedding. I can honestly say that it was one of my favorite weddings ever. We worked our butts off, but it was easy work. We had a great location (Lauxmont Farms), great weather, but most of all a wonderful couple that gave us lots of freedom and time to have some fun. Seriously, you guys were great!

I edited some of these blog shots on the plane, and the flight attendant couldn't stop commenting about how pretty Maria looked. We agree. Eric, you were ok too, I guess :). So, without further ado, and since I'm typing this at 3am... here's some of my favorite shots. Hope you enjoy...
